Meet Our Volunteers

Mary Ann West has been a volunteer, 2 days a week, at Good Cents Treasures for almost 1 year. She wanted to help people, so she called HVCC and asked to help at Good Cents. She enjoys her time there and likes to keep the linens area clean and neat, which is fine with the other workers, as it's one of the areas that is hard to keep tidy!

Mary Ann retired in 1989 from Cigna, after working 35 years in the underwriting department. When she retired she was the Assistant Director. Mary Ann was born in Ellington and moved to Vernon when she was 8 years old and has lived there ever since!

When she's not volunteering at Good Cents, Mary Ann likes to work in her flower garden, hang out with her girl friends, who also happen to be retired, and also likes to bowl.

Mary Ann is a very sweet lady with a big heart. When you're in the area, stop by Good Cents and thank her for volunteering her time to help others!.

For the past four years Good Cents has been an enriching and beneficial partnership with the Rockville High School work experience program. Leslie Dinardo has always been welcoming and supportive in having a student come in every other day for 1 hour for about 7 weeks. The students who have completed a work experience at Good Cents have benefited from the nurturing and supportive environment. They are exposed to various job skills and more importantly an opportunity to work on appropriate social skills at the workplace. We currently have Krista Doyon who has been working there since April. She has gained work confidence and has been working independently for the past three weeks. The supportive and nurturing environment allows the students to gain confidence in gaining work skills. This would not have been possible without the support of Leslie and her staff at Good Cents. I look forward to many more years of this continued partnership.

Last, but not the least of our volunteers, is the H.V.C.C. Board of Directors. These are the people who oversee the workings of the agency, assuring that it is managed well, money is spent as it should be and that our mission - to help people who need it - remains the target of what we do. They act as support and advocacy for H.V.C.C. This is essential to the well being of the agency and our services.

H.V.C.C. says thank you on behalf of those you have helped so much.
