Intake and Evaluation

The Intake Meeting or Substance Abuse/Mental Health Evaluation is the initial meeting with clients seeking services at HVCC. It is an assessment of the presenting problem and the client's family, medical, mental health, substance abuse, and legal history.
Based on the information provided by the client at Intake, treatment recommendations are made and approved by the Director of Counseling. Clients are scheduled for their first appointment at the time of intake.
Referrals to Psychiatric Evaluations are made once the client is established (usually after three sessions of therapy). However, if a referral is made from a higher level of care, a referral for Psychiatric Evaluation may be made at Intake. Efforts are made to expedite Psychiatric appointments for emergencies.
If the initial evaluation indicates a need for a more appropriate level of care, then referrals to other treatment programs in the area will be made. In this situation, you may expect a phone call or letter from the Intake Clinician to inform you of these treatment recommendations. In addition, he or she will assist you in the referral process.
