Without volunteers, HVCC could not provide many of our services.
The HVCC Food Pantry provides food assistance to over 1,400 households in Vernon, Rockville, Ellington, and Tolland, all of whom meet federal eligibility guidelines. The pantry is operated by a team of both staff and volunteers who provide a variety of services such as:
Checking clients into the pantry
Assisting those clients who need help in selecting their food items
Bagging clients' food and helping them to their cars
Most volunteers commit to one pantry session per week, but some do more. Volunteering in the pantry requires a significant amount of standing and the ability to carry bags of groceries.
Additional volunteers are needed to:
Deliver food to homebound seniors once a week
Assist in the preparation and distribution of holiday dinners
Help with food drives at area grocery stores
If you are available to volunteer in the food pantry, there is a job for you and you will make a big different in the lives of many of our neighbors!
HVCC Elder Service needs its volunteers. Friendly Visitors is just one of the services that we could not do without our volunteers. Friendly Visitors volunteers help to provide much needed social contact, run errands, read to the sight impaired, and help the elderly with personal business. Other volunteers make reassurance phone calls, appointments and do follow-up paperwork. Volunteers of all ages can help seniors to remain independent for as long as possible. They can help to clean, do yard work, paint, rake, weed, provide medical rides, etc.
